Product Description
The ICT tester consists of the following components:
Controller – A controller is a computer used to drive the system and run the necessary software.
Switch – Routes the system to a specific area or node on the circuit board being tested.
Interface – Allows various circuit board fixtures to be mounted onto the tester. This includes electrical connections; if the circuit board requires power, it may also include a power supply. If the circuit board needs to be clamped onto a “nail bed,” it may also include an air supply or vacuum system.
Fixing device – “nail bed” or spring-loaded test pins make physical contact with the unit under test.
Drive-sensor:
An active circuit used for performing measurements. Drivers and sensors come in pairs. The driver provides a voltage or current that enables the nodes in the circuit to be driven into a specific state. These drivers possess high capability, allowing them to drive nodes into the desired state regardless of the conditions of the surrounding circuitry. Typically, they may need to force the output of a digital IC into a given state, irrespective of the device’s natural output state. To achieve this, the driver’s output impedance must be extremely low.
The sensors perform actual measurements. They need to have high impedance so as not to interfere with the circuit being measured.
Protection:
When a component is not part of a circuit, it’s easy to measure its value. However, when a component is already present in the circuit, its presence may alter the value of the quantity being measured. To address this issue and improve measurement accuracy, a protection circuit is used to connect other components to ground, thereby eliminating leakage paths and enabling more precise measurements.
Multiplexing:
For complex or larger printed circuit board assemblies, the total number of nodes may exceed the capacity of the test system. Assigning a dedicated pin to each node can be extremely costly, as each node would also require a sensor. Multiplexing can be employed, allowing specific nodes to be addressed via a switch matrix that connects multiple nodes. However, only one multiplexed node can be accessed at a time, which imposes limitations on both programming and fixture design.
